Rev. Matt Carr
Senior Pastor
Matt was born in Richmond, VA but moved to Washington, NC when he was a year and ahalf old in 1976. He and his two younger sisters grew up in Washington. He attended WashingtonHigh School where he was a member of the student council and played baseball throughout hishigh school years. After graduating from Washington High School in 1993, Matt attended BartonCollege where he played baseball through his sophomore year. In 1997 Matt graduated with aBachelor of Science in Business Administration. Matt began his work career in professionalconstruction, and spent the next 25 years working in industrial, residential, and commercialconstruction living in Richmond, VA, Greensboro, NC, Raleigh, NC and finishing the last 10years in Washington, NC. After moving back to Washington, Matt met his wife Emily, a nativeof Washington, and they were married in October 2012.
Matt began to receive God’s call into pastoral ministry in 2014 after guest speaking atFirst Baptist Church. Over the next few years more opportunities arose to be a guest speaker atFirst Baptist as well as other local churches. The desire to pursue vocational pastoral ministryfully developed in 2019 with the decision to pursue a theological education. Matt enrolled atSoutheastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC in August of 2019 and receiveda Master of Divinity in preaching and pastoral ministry. Upon graduating in December of 2022Matt spent the next year as a pulpit supply preacher in many churches in eastern North Carolina.Matt was ordained to pastoral ministry in March of 2023 by First Baptist Washington. Matt and his wife Emily reside in Washington with their two children, Fischer and Claire. Rev. Matt Carr joined the staff of First Baptist Washington on May 19, 2024.

Rev. Jesse Davis
Minister of Music
Jesse grew up in Washington. He previously directed music at First Baptist Pinehurst, Enon Baptist and the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit. His Master of Divinity is from Southeastern Seminary, Master of Music from Baylor University, and Bachelor of Music from North Carolina School of the Arts. Before returning to Washington, he performed internationally and taught many talented young musicians. Discipling all ages through music is his passion. A favorite book is Power In the Pulpit and a favorite song is Waymaker. He and his wife Leslie have three children: Victoria, John and Thomas.
Rev. Taylor Head
Minister Students & Education
Taylor grew up in Montgomery, Alabama before moving to New Orleans to complete a Masters of Art in Marriage and Family Counseling from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in. He has served in various capacities of Student Ministry for more than ten years. He is married to Jennifer and they have three children: Tylon, Asher, and Ezekiel. Taylor is passionate about Student Ministry and training students to be firm in their faith in God. He structures his ministry around the idea that youth groups graduate, but disciples take it with them.
Mrs. Joy Stallings
Director of Children's Min. & Outreach
Joy is our Director of Children's Ministry and Outreach. She and her husband Chase have lived in Washington for over twenty years and are actively involved at First Baptist and in the community. Joy has a heart for ministry. She has a desire to work with First Baptist and the Children's Ministry as we love, lead, and teach the importance of reaching outside the church walls to bring the love of Christ to others. Joy and Chase have two adult children: Hope and Hundley.
Washington is located at the mouth of the beautiful Pamlico River.
Our Church Support Staff
Alison Renfrow
Church Secretary
Alison joined the FBC staff in May 2024 as our church secretary to pastoral staff. Alison is a homeschool mom of three: Wyatt, Claire, and Paige. She is happy to help set up meetings with staff, place announcements in the informer, and more!
Crystal Modlin
Financial Secretary
Crystal has been with the FBC WEE School staff since 2018. She now also serves FBC as the Financial Secretary. She is married to Justin Modlin and has four children; Tyler, Landon, Trinity and Bodie.
Leslie Davis
Organist
Leslie joined First Baptist as organist in June 2022. Prior to FBW, she served at Snyder Memorial Baptist as organist and pianist and at the Snyder Music Academy as piano instructor and accompanist. Leslie holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance with Distinction from Baylor University where she was a Graduate Accompanying Assistant. Leslie had additional study in Vienna, Austria, Monte San Savino, Italy and Sion, Switzerland. At First Baptist, Leslie enjoys working with children’s music in particular. She is the wife of Jesse and mom of Thomas, John and Victoria.
Joyce Gardner
Church Receptionist
Joyce has been a substitute secretary for FBC for years before joining us officially as receptionist in 2023.
